Wen Cleansing Conditioner Review

Rated: 5 out of 10
by SplitEnds.org

If you're looking for a way to repair your damaged hair, you may be interested in natural products that improve upon traditional ones, or so they claim. One such product is Wen Cleansing Conditioner, a 5-in-1 solution that replaces shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner and detangler. Created by Chaz Dean, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Wen Hair Care, the conditioner claims an absence of chemicals that lead to frizziness, stripping of color, dullness, dryness, hair loss, split ends and other follicular debacles. But can it cure damaged hair? To find out, we start by examining its ingredients.

Wen Cleansing Conditioner Ingredients

When a product claims to be “natural,” a term that has more wiggle room than the term “organic,” it's important to see if its ingredients support the claim. According to Wen Hair Care's website, Wen Cleansing Conditioner's active ingredients are as follows:

  • Glycerin for deep moisturizing;
  • Chamomile Extract for adding sheen and highlights;
  • Cherry Bark for color, softness and shine;
  • Rosemary Extract for conditioning, toning and strengthening;
  • Panthenol for volume and resilience; and
  • Sweet Almond Oil for glide, soothing and moisturizing

To the company's credit, its conditioner's active ingredients are indeed natural, impressive at a time when many “natural” products still contain harmful chemicals. But as natural as its ingredients are, the question remains: Do they repair damaged hair and make it beautiful hair? To find out, we look to the cleansing conditioner's users.

Does Wen Cleansing Conditioner Work?

On the positive side, the conditioner's users report a reduction in split ends and an increase in volume, shine and softness, benefits that require using more of the product than you would a traditional conditioner. On the negative side, some customers complain of scalp irritation due to the product's inactive menthol, and of a “residual” effect that weighs hair down, a trait common to traditional conditioners that Wen Cleansing Conditioner claims to avoid. Overall, the consensus on the conditioner's effectiveness is that it (a) can repair damaged hair based on the power of its ingredients; (b) contains non-active ingredients that cause negative reactions in some users; and (c) isn't a hair treatment that improves hair that is mostly healthy. If you want beautiful hair, Wen Cleansing Conditioner can set you on the right path, but it may not get you all the way there.

Buy Wen Cleansing Conditioner

Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner is available at Wen Hair Care's website, and through major retailers such as amazon.com. At Wen Hair Care's website, a 30-day supply and a 90-day supply of the conditioner sell for $29.95 and $89.85, respectively. When you buy through the website, free styling creme and a free hair repair mask are included with your order, but expect to receive recurring shipments that replenish your 30-day or 90-day supply of the conditioner. Recurring shipments can be canceled or returned, although some customers report difficulty when trying to close their account and receive a refund to a credit card.
